More photos to come. The closing went well. We are so thankful for God’s provision! To Him be the glory.

All About Our New Town

While you are all sitting around waiting for pictures of our new house, I thought I would post some information on our new town.

We are moving to Spring Hill, Tennessee. It is just a little bit south of where we currently live in Franklin. It is 30 miles south of Nashville. It is 17 sq miles and the population in 2010 was 29,000. In 2000 the population was only a little over 7000. In 2011 it was the fastest growing city in Tennessee and in 2009 it was ranked third in a list of the most recession resistant cities in the US.

For my brother’s benefit, I need to mention that it has a Cracker Barrel and Buffalo Wild Wings! Other highlights are Target, Kohls, Lowes, Home Depot and Olive Garden.

For those of you interested in history, it is the site of Civil War battle.

Finally, for anyone who is interested in visiting us, it has easy access to the interstate that runs north and south right through the center of Tennessee.

Details

Yesterday we received our official notice of how much money we need to bring to closing. Today I drove a long, long way to the electric company office (it’s not in the town we’re moving to) because they make you do everything in person. All of our utilities are ready to go. Phone and internet will be set up on Saturday afternoon.

Today’s packing assignment was to finish Audrey’s room. There were many things she didn’t want to pack yet. I didn’t push her on it because,as it turns out, our family deals with moving stress by getting sick. She has a double ear infection. She’s on antibiotics and is on the mend. Nathan is fighting a cold too. Please pray for healing for everyone.

Tomorrow morning we’ll probably run to the bank, do our final walk-through of the house, CLOSE at noon and then move our first car loads. I’m planning to take photos of all the rooms before we move everything in there. I think we’ll bring over the stuff that is going in the garage and the kitchen things. We also need to pick up paint for the room the boys are moving into. It’s currently pink/purple. We’ve hired a coworker of Nathan’s to paint for us. It will work really well because he lives in the same neighborhood that we’re moving to and he will be able to do it in the evenings this week before we move the furniture on Saturday.

Tomorrow is a big day!

Boys and Bunkbeds

Here’s a word to the wise. If you happen to have boys that share a bunk bed and that bunk happens to be up against a wall (which it probably should be), you will get two levels of dirty feet marks and bed toys scuff marks across that wall- one for each child.

Today’s task was to pack up the rest of the boys’ room. All of their stuff except for the clothes they will need to wear is now packed. With that done, I decided to pull out their bed from the wall and assess the damage. It was not pretty and I have no “before” shots. I do have some “half-way done” shots.

[pe2-image src=”http://lh6.ggpht.com/-rWn4_4WjAdU/UfbFSxZkZAI/AAAAAAAAyHA/TtBTMZq8qZ8/s144-o/IMG_0039.JPG” href=”https://picasaweb.google.com/118259776065704938395/20130729#5906124887631881218″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”IMG_0039.JPG” ]

And a little later:
[pe2-image src=”http://lh3.ggpht.com/-8yFKH7VP7uM/Ufbbdy2ZkeI/AAAAAAAAyHo/E33TKty4kNI/s144-o/IMG_0043.JPG” href=”https://picasaweb.google.com/118259776065704938395/20130729#5906149266255614434″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”IMG_0043.JPG” ]

It seems to really showcase the dirt once you start scrubbing walls. We’re getting closer to making sure they are presentable though. You can’t see the wall as well in the second picture. It’s a lot better though. Tonight, I might convince Nathan to take the beds apart and just leave the mattresses on the floor. The boys think it’s a great idea.

Losing Steam

[pe2-image src=”http://lh6.ggpht.com/-ucdGodXyLIU/UfXN3P8wlaI/AAAAAAAAyGE/F6uI131OAmE/s144-o/IMG_0033.JPG” href=”https://picasaweb.google.com/118259776065704938395/20130728#5905852835424146850″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”IMG_0033.JPG” ]

Nathan packed up a lot of the kitchen today. All that is left is the pantry and one set of plates, bowls and cups. It’s great to have so much already done, but on the other hand, it’s really kind of overwhelming to see the boxes take over. It makes me want to camp out in my bedroom with the door closed until moving day! Nathan and I are both very tired!

[pe2-image src=”http://lh5.ggpht.com/-5E_JxBWJGk0/UfXN1TFigOI/AAAAAAAAyF0/relaJ35n29k/s144-o/IMG_0030.JPG” href=”https://picasaweb.google.com/118259776065704938395/20130728#5905852801906540770″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”IMG_0030.JPG” ]

After packing, we went to the pool. I can safely say that my kids have spent more time swimming this summer than ever before. We’ve been going for a couple hours each day that the weather has been nice. My pale little babes are quite tan! We are going to miss having a pool just a few steps from our house. I think knowing that the pool will be closed soon (they close at Labor Day here in TN even though the weather is still warm) is easing the sting of leaving it. We’ll still have our pool key for a couple of weeks as we finish cleaning up the house. Tomorrow looks like another beautiful day to go to the pool!

In addition to moving this week, Ethan is scheduled to start school on Friday (he’s doing the online Tennessee Virtual Academy). This should be quite a week!

One More Week

One week from today we pack everything in this house and move it to our new house. We’ll take a load each day starting on Wednesday (when we close), but we’re getting our moving truck and having our helpers come on Saturday to move all the big stuff and everything that’s left. A few days ago, I planned out what we still needed to pack and which days we would finish packing each room (except for the stuff we need every day). On the agenda for today was to empty out the attic and make sure that everything that was up there was in boxes and ready to move.

There was a lot more in the attic than I remembered! Our stack of packed boxes is getting bigger and bigger.
[pe2-image src=”http://lh4.ggpht.com/-D7wO0fEGUkg/UfR1NVgKZnI/AAAAAAAAyFE/zPNx3W_JN14/s144-o/IMG_0026.JPG” href=”https://picasaweb.google.com/118259776065704938395/20130727#5905473883360355954″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”IMG_0026.JPG” ]

I had to run to pick up boxes in our new town today. Of course I HAD to drive by our new house (not completely down to the end of the road by the house because I didn’t want the new neighbors to think I’m a stalker) and I saw the owners loading up two PODS.

We are so very excited!!!!

Ethan is Home!

Ethan made it back. He smells like he HAS showered! Hallelujah.

The bad news is that he seemed to be wearing a pair of shorts that I had never seen before and upon further inspection of his bag, there is a t-shirt in it with his stuff with a name tag that says, “Benjamin”. Hmmmm….. Sorry about that Ben, but I think you put some of your clothes in the wrong bag. It would be so much easier to return them to you if you were one of the kids from our church.

Ethan had a great time. He made some friends (although he and Ben may be on the outs now that Ethan has his shirt and shorts) and apparently the lack of pajamas was not an issue. He was a bit upset that I didn’t pack his goggles. Live and learn. Highlights were the games, friends, dessert with every meal and free treats at the Canteen.

Notes for the next time: explain how to keep clean and dirty clothes separate so that he knows which underwear is clean and which is dirty. Also a big ziplock bag for his wet towel and swim trunks would be handy.

Welcome home, Ethan!

8 Days To Go!

We close in 8 days!

I’ve spent most of today cleaning and packing. It was time to tackle the master bedroom closet and bathroom.

Here’s a “before” and “after” of the closet. It’s not done, but a lot of stuff has been taken out and packed.

[pe2-image src=”http://lh4.ggpht.com/-vh6KBlaR0QI/Ue7X7XmIPUI/AAAAAAAAyA8/up6WtVyciD4/s144-o/2013-07-231.jpg” href=”https://picasaweb.google.com/118259776065704938395/Collages#5903893576475491650″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”2013-07-231.jpg” ]

I promise you I actually took stuff OUT of the closet. See:

[pe2-image src=”http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ef6del_yKuc/Ue7XgPFkcbI/AAAAAAAAyAo/Sc6axhORfEw/s144-o/IMG_0005.JPG” href=”https://picasaweb.google.com/118259776065704938395/20130723#5903893110334976434″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”IMG_0005.JPG” ]

I also worked hard on getting hard water stains off the tub. I did a pretty good job, but I have a little more work to do. I don’t have good a good “before” photo because the flash wasn’t working properly. Here is how it looks now:

That Time I Sent Ethan To Camp With No Pajamas

(if you haven’t read yesterday’s post, don’t miss it!)

Dear Ethan,

Last night as I was drifting off to sleep and thinking about all the fun that you were having at camp, I realized that we had not packed you any pajamas. Most nights you tell me that you would like to sleep “shirtless”, but I doubt you were planning to take that farther and go “pantless” for your first time at camp.

I promise I will make it up to you with the requested chocolate welcome home cake!

Love,

Mom

p.s. Audrey has taken over your bunk bed. Isaac is worried that his room will soon be completely pink and overtaken with barbies and stuffed animals.
