Successful Weekend

Saturday started with Audrey reading The Cat In The Hat! Woohoo! By the way, it’s a really long book 🙂

On a scale of 1 -10 as far as stress for this weekend, I would peg it at about a 9. So, where is the “success” in that? Let me tell you! I tracked all my food and stayed within the limits I made for myself. I’m pretty proud of that. Everything in me wanted to stuff food in me as fast as I could.

I ran on Saturday and started my 100 pushups challenge.

The other “hooray” from the weekend was that we’re finally starting to figure out what we want in the entryway. I picked out this bench and I really like it!

[pe2-image src=”http://lh6.ggpht.com/-mj9KEjXInzY/UzloxRHH35I/AAAAAAABdO4/nczaQekHuMI/s144-o/IMG_0403.JPG” href=”https://picasaweb.google.com/118259776065704938395/20140331#5996939574436683666″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”IMG_0403.JPG” ]

I opted for a light color to brighten up the area. There are also some hooks for coats above the bench. I’ll take a photo that shows it all when we’re actually done with this area. I want to add something else to the area: photo for the wall and a little table or shelf.

Happy Monday!

Operation Slim-down for Summer

By my calculations, there are about 9 weeks until June. Even though I live in the south where warm weather seems to come earlier than I am used to, June is still the month that marks “summer” for me. And because the pools here in the south don’t open until Memorial Day, I’m going to stick with that.

That means 9 weeks until swimsuit season is upon us.

63 days. I can accomplish a lot in 63 days.

March has been rough in regards to my eating choices. I ate back all the weight I lost last month. I have a terrible habit of dealing with stress by eating. I would love to lose 9 lbs in the next 9 weeks.

Week 1 Goals:

  • Register for May 31st 5k.
  • Run 3 times.
  • Track my food every day and keep my calories to no more than 1600
  • Restart the 100 pushups challenge.

Who wants to join me for the “Operations Slim-Down for Summer”? I’ll be checking in on Fridays with my progress. I know I need this to keep me accountable!

Grass

There is a strange phenomenon that can be observed in lawns all over here.

First of all, not many people fertilize their lawns. It’s very uncommon to see yards that are full of soft, green grass. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s a health thing?

But, that’s not what is on my mind. This is what is all over right now:

[pe2-image src=”http://lh6.ggpht.com/-VJNd_no96Fo/UzQrZd94XGI/AAAAAAABdNo/PlBxKpnkSlA/s144-o/IMG_0399.JPG” href=”https://picasaweb.google.com/118259776065704938395/20140327#5995464720477871202″ caption=”” type=”image” alt=”IMG_0399.JPG” ]

Onions. All over. So very strange.

Speaking of grass, this is what our grass looked like two days ago:

We had a mini-blizzard for a little while. In fact, the snow was coming down so fast that people couldn’t see when they were out and about. Then the snow stopped and within a few minutes the ground was green again.

 Ethan-

He’s been working hard on multiple digit multiplication with regrouping. This is hard for a child that doesn’t write very neatly 🙁 He’s getting better.

He would rather not ever do grammar!

He would happily read Hardy Boys mysteries all day.

Our current struggle is keeping him focused. He is very easily distracted.

On Thursday, I plan to visit a local tutorial that I’m hoping we can enroll Ethan in next year. It meets on Thursdays and the curriculum looks like a great fit for him.

Audrey-

We’re coming along slowly, but surely.

Today she worked on connecting digital clock pictures to clocks with “hands”! She did great!

We’ve moved up to the next level or reading in her All About Reading curriculum and she is rocking it! I can not say enough good stuff about this approach for her. It’s multi-sensory and very specifically sequential in how it introduces reading rules. I love it. I wish I could marry it.

Last week’s field trip was to the zoo:

We love the zoo! We have a membership that covers the kids and I + one. If you plan to visit, we would love to take you to the zoo with us! The kids would go weekly if they could.

Date night

Our night at the Ryman.

One of the kids took this photo before we left. I don’t remember who it was. They were shorter than we were though 😉

Pentatonix Concert

Nathan and I went to a concert last night. Pentatonix was in town and we snagged tickets the day they went on sale.

I had not really followed them, but Nathan did and had friends at work who were fans. I didn’t know what a “hot ticket” it was until Nathan told me that he could have sold them for hundreds of dollars each online after that venue sold out in a day!

They were very good!

The concert was at the Ryman which was an added bonus. It was my first time there. Now I can say that I’ve seen a concert at the Ryman.

Frozen Party

Nathan had the idea to have a Frozen movie party. So, tonight we had 20 people at our house. 13 were kids. And it was so fun! Nathan made popcorn and we filed little broken paper bags for everyone. I was amazed at how well the kids did.

Movie trivia for you: this movie is based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen. The movie has characters that are named, Hans, Christoph, Anna and Sven. Say those names together fast 🙂

We are very thankful for our friends here. It sure is fun to be able to host impromptu movie nights!

Zoo Day!

As a part of our modified spring break (we’re not really taking the week off completely), we went to the zoo today.

And I left the camera on our van.

But we had a great time seeing elephants, zebras, monkeys, bugs of all kinds, horses, and other animals. Two other families joined us. It was a lovely day.

Here Audrey and I are toward the end of the day in our backyard:

Normal?

43 pages were faxed by us to our bank today and it has been cloudy and dreary. Those two things have not been awesome.

I realized that it’s been a month since I cut all my hair off and I never posted a picture. Here I am the day of my hair cut:

I keep waiting for life to get back to normal. When will that happen exactly? Please have it happen soon!
